BIF Contest Honorary Mentions – 3/26/24

Congratulations again to Emil Baumbach for being the winner of our BIF Contest (and $100)!  Nine other excellent shots were in the running for the Grand Prize – I’ll be sharing five today and four tomorrow.  I think you’ll agree that selecting one winner of these 10 was a tough decision.  Here are the first five Honorable Mention shots, in no particular order:

Ronald Zigler’s shot of an American Kestrel really caught my eye!  It looks like the bird leaped from stalk to stalk.  Great capture!

Emil Baumbach also shared this great shot of two Greater Prairie Chickens fighting it out over territory on the lek.

The picture titled “Heading Home” by Bajadreamer certainly was a strong contender for the top prize.  Xwinger and I both liked the prey captured in its mouth as it flew over a marshy area. Well Done!

What catches your eye in this next picture by Always Birding?  Mine were drawn to the yellow, open beaks of the chicks – you hardly notice the adult coming in with some food.  A great shot captured at just the right moment.

Rebecca Bowater’s shot from the railing of a pelagic boat off of the coast of the South Island, New Zealand is amazing.  She caught three birds, one above another, flying past with snow-covered mountains in the background.

See the final four Honorable Mentions for the BIF Contest tomorrow.
