BIF Shots

I just returned from a trip out west to relax with family and friends.  I did have a couple of days of birding but have 1900 images to process so I’ll hold off a discussion of the trip until I can include some shots.

In the meantime I noticed some great BIF shots have been added to our database.  Here are a few that caught my eye:

We start out with dual BIF shot – two male Baltimore Orioles chase each other up in the sky.  A very difficult shot, but Avneet Kaur got it!

Gurinb captured a Caracara as it gently landed on a sun-dried branch.  Setting her shutter speed to 1/1600th of a second she stopped the wing action and has the entire body in focus.  GreatBirdPic!

I love the wide composition on this next shot.  Ron Zigler could have centered on the Short-eared Owl, but instead he widened the frame to include the frozen sticks illuminated by the sunset.  Great decision – it provides us with an image with lots of depth but never loses the importance of the owl.

Our final BIF picture of the day comes to us from Vietnam courtesy of Bajadreamer.  A Black-crowned Night-Heron leaps from one perch to another.  Take note of its back foot (or lack thereof).  Fishing line or trap?  We’ll never know.  I love the depth of this shot as you can see off into the distance between the bushes.
