Last Friday GreatBirdPics.com was pleased to announce the winner of its “Small Bird In The Frame” bird photography contest (Click Here to see).
There were a lot of great photos submitted for the contest and thanks again to all the GBP bird photographers who submitted an entry. Xwinger and I narrowed the photos down to seven before selecting the winner. Today I’d like to share the six Honorable Mention shots. Congratulations these talented photographers!
Mike Affinito’s shot of a Northern Waterthrush siting in a tree surrounded by catkins the same color as the bird was a great example of our “Small Bird In The Frame” contest.
Emil Baumbach’s shot of a Ruby-throated Hummingbird is stunning – not only the bird, but the flower it is feeding on is striking. Well done!
Osprey60’s shot of Sandhill Cranes flying at sunset really caught our eye. It’s a pretty tough to get the most important birds (of many) in focus. I like the way he included the other birds around the central four.
Speaking of sunset, just look at the colors in Bob’s shot of an American Black Duck flying over a lake in Idaho. Beautiful!
AlwaysBirding always sends in some great shots for the contests. Xwinger and I really liked this one of a Northern Mockingbird picking berries off a shrub in the fog.
Xwinger commented on how he really liked looking at the habitat around Emil Baumbach’s Boreal Owl shot; the owl was part of the forest giving the shot a broader appeal.
Finally, Mike Affinito took this shot of a loon chick reaching up toward the setting sun. Stunning shot!
