It’s been awhile since I posted the picture below and asked what was the most distracting thing in the image.
Of course being a complex composition with lots of possibilities there was a variety of responses, including:
Blurry background
The yellow glow above the plant √
The twig poking up in the lower right √
The shadow beneath the beak √
The purplish branch to the right of the bird √
Bajadreamer went so far as to reedit the picture taking out some of the elements mentioned above (his resulting image was too small to share here).
All were good answers as each element mentioned was obviously a distractor to somebody. As for me the distractor I focused on was the twig poking up in the lower right. A minor element but several people mentioned it – it briefly takes your eye away from the main subject.
Taking a cue from Bajadreamer I reedited the original picture. I took out most of the objects that were mentioned as distractors from the photo (marked with a √ above) using Lightroom’s Generative Remove tool. Here’s the new version:
When you look and compare it to the first picture, has the quality improved because the distractors are gone? Was it worth the 10 minutes to remove them? With those distractors gone, do new ones show up? I’d like to know your opinion – thanks! Reply to the email and let me know.
