Paul Demkovich shared several Great Bird Pics recently and two of them caught my eye. Neither one would be considered a Great Bird Pic in the traditional sense, but they are interesting nonetheless.
The first one was taken in Veracruz, Mexico where he went to observe the ‘River of Raptors’ fall migration (raptors that migrate can’t fly over the Gulf of Mexico so they travel along the coast). One of the species they saw migrating in great numbers were Anhingas. One afternoon they laid on the ground near a baseball field in Chichicaxtle and watched thousands of birds stream above them. You just don’t see that every day!
Here’s another shot Paul took while in Cardel, Mexico. He said Bronze Cowbirds were everywhere and here you can see more than 50 of them perched on the phone/electrical wires in town. I’ve seen transmission poles like this elsewhere in Central American and it’s a wonder anything works there.
