We all remember that Robin Williams’ film, “Good Morning Vietnam” in which he plays an outspoken DJ for a military radio station during the Vietnam war. It’s hard to believe that it was only 50 years ago we fought the Vietnamese and left the country with bitter memories and in shambles. Now Vietnam is one of our biggest trading partners, importing billions of dollars in machinery and mechanical appliances, clothing and footwear from them every year.
Opening the doors to trade has simultaneously opened the tourism industry. Birders were some of the first tourists to visit Vietnam to see exotic species that can only be found there. Bajadreamer went to Vietnam last December and shared some of his Great Bird Pics with us. As always, Bajadreamer includes some fascinating information about the birds and the country in his Description so be sure to click on the thumbnails to read more.
Our first one is a Bar-bellied Pita. It was one of Bajadreamer’s favorite birds.
We often think of doves as being rather dull, colorless birds, but not the Asian Emerald Dove! Have you ever seen a beak that red?
Have you ever seen colors like this on a bird? At first I thought the sunlight was shining on its back and wing tips, but that’s their natural color. Even the eye of the Silver-breasted Broadbill is full of color.
Here’ a lovely composition of a Black-naped Monarch. I love the blues, blacks and whites to make this bird truly unique.
Lastly, Bajadreamer asks and answers, “Am I a birdwatcher?” in his description of this Black-crested Bulbul. I must admit I fall somewhere between his description of “birdwatcher” and “bird photographer”.
Thanks Bajadreamer for sharing all your pics and words with us – we learn from both.
