How can it be the end of August already!? Actually, I’m looking forward to September and the migrant birds it brings. Reports of warblers are starting to trickle in so brush up on your fall warbler ID and get out there!
Rebecca Bowater recently shared a series of photographs of a critically-endangered Kaka. The birds are being bred in captivity and then released in sanctuaries to help restore their population. Below is my favorite shot of hers; I love how the head pokes through the foliage and is caught at the moment its beak plucks off a bright red berry. The head is in sharp focus, which is difficult with all the leaves around to distract the camera. Well done, Rebecca!
