I Have Snowy Pics Too!

Looking at the Snowy Owl pics recently took me back six weeks to when there were reports of not one, but two Snowy Owls down at Montrose Point in Chicago.  We left home early so we could get to Montrose (about a 40 minute drive) around sunrise.  It was a beautiful morning as we walked out toward the pier called the “Fish Hook” hoping to see the Snowys and gauging from the crowd of onlookers they were still there!  As we walked up I was not surprised at all to see a couple of GreatBirdPics members there – Emil Baumbach and Mike Carroll were getting their Snowy fix, too.

It was a surreal sight to see the two of them perched on the pier with the skyline of North Shore Chicago in the background.

It is difficult (for me) to identify the gender of Snowy Owls but you can see that the two owls were different in coloration.

The owls stayed a few more days and they drew crowds of inquisitive onlookers with some people (I’ll wager a guess that some were photographers) walking too close to them; barricades were soon set up to limit access. Such a treat to see these beautiful birds on the waterfront – had to get my Snowy fix in for this year!
