When entering images into GreatBirdPic’s database the submitter is asked to identify the gender of the bird. The vast number of entries are labeled “Unknown” because so many birds are monomorphic, meaning you can’t tell the difference between male and female by casual observation. Submitters rarely submit images that include both male and female of the same species. Today we feature three of these images.
First up, we have a male and female American Kestrel side by side (the male on the left) thanks to Ronald Zigler. Click the pic and read his Description of how they vary from one another.
Here’s one that includes two Canvasbacks by Mike Affinito. The shot is focused on the female in the center but you can see the male above and to the left. Due to the limitations of the shot’s depth of view the male is out of focus.
Finally, Bajadreamer submitted what he claims is, “The Most Photographed Wood Ducks Ever”. Quite a claim – click on the pic to read why.
