Today we feature two pictures of Hooded Mergansers by docshaf. The image of the female below caught my eye because the top of the head is so flat – I thought it was somehow cut off in post-processing. Looking carefully though, the feathers are just matted down.
Next is the male. I love the composition of this one: the wide crop gives the bird lots of space, the darker water in the background gives depth, and a bit of reflection adds interest. Great job capturing the head at just the right angle to the sun so the face is well-illuminated. GreatBirdPic!
