More Snowys

Last Friday I featured a Snowy Owl, which is a very popular bird in the winter.  Birders across the northern half of the U.S. try to find Snowy Owls each year and, when found, love photographing them.  We had several entries of Snowy Owls in our recent “Tis the Season” bird photography contest and, although they didn’t win, I want to feature these Great Bird Pics for you.

Emil Baumbach captured this image of a Snowy along the Chicago waterfront and if you look at the top of the picture you’ll see a small slice of Lake Michigan in the distance.  Beautiful composition!

Avneet Kaur’s Snowy Owl was found in Ohio.  The touch of red on its face reminds us that owls are raptors.

AlwaysBirding’s BIF shot of a Snowy Owl is remarkable in a couple of ways.  First, any BIF shot of a bird that has no contrast with the background (sky in this case) is hard for the camera to focus on, and second, Snowy Owls are usually at rest during the day so to even find one flying is rare.
