Never Heard of Them

When reviewing the Latest Pics section I always get a kick out of seeing pictures of birds I’ve never heard of.  With over 11,000 species of birds that’s not a surprise, but when a new one pops up I sit up and take notice.  Here’s a few that came in lately:

Rebecca Bowater saw this Cirl Bunting feeding on the ground, which is unusual to find them in New Zealand.  I’m not sure why there is a yellow cast over some of the pics.

 

I’ve seen lots of gulls, but I don’t know if I’ve heard if (or seen) the Western Gull before.  Avneet Kaur saw this juvenile one in California.

 

I’ve seen a couple of different types of Kites before but not a Red Kite.  Bajadreamer shares a neat story about their comeback in Wales (click the Pic and read the Description).
