North Dakota Here I Come…

Last week I started a brief travelogue of our recent trip to Custer State Park in South Dakota and shared some pictures from Ft. Pierre National Grasslands which is just south of Pierre, SD.  It turns out the Dakotas were popular birding spots for our members this summer, too, as three of our members stopped in North Dakota to snap some Great Bird Pics.  Take a look:

Birder2011 took this tack-sharp image of a Lazuli Bunting singing away at Theodore Roosevelt National Park.

Mike Affinito also was in North Dakota and captured this image of a male Rudy Duck in breeding colors (blue bill).  I love the bubbles in front of the bird as it chugs along.

Here’s another one from Mike Affinito of a Marsh Wren singing away.  Not an easy bird to photograph because it often hides in the reeds.  Great shot!

Bajadreamer was there, too!  Here he has captured a Chestnut-collared Longspur as it takes off.  Well timed!

Finally, here’s another shot by bajadreamer of two Brown-headed Cowbirds in a courtship display.  I love the colors captured in the pic (I’m guessing sunrise or sunset).  I saw a lot of these birds in South Dakota but never came close to getting a shot this good!
