White-winged Crossbill

An awesome experience with awesome birds!

Viewed 46 Times

I chased the White-winged Crossbills out in DeKalb County yesterday and was not expecting looks like the ones we got. At first the birds were flighty and photographing them was very challenging, since they were on the back row of a tree line, and the lighting was horrible.
After this they moved spots and allowed for 10 very happy birders to practically get right under them as the munched away at pine cones. An awesome moment happened when this bright male crossbill flew just inches from my face and then landed on a stick no more than 4 feet away at eye level!!
