Late one afternoon I heard the call of a Pileated Woodpecker very near to the house. I went outside and found this female looking for some dinner. She was moving along the forest floor and to my surprise was primarily digging, as opposed to pecking on tree trunks. I crouched behind a fallen tree and observed while she focused on foraging.

Pileated Woodpeckers are always delightful.
