White-winged Crossbill

This White-winged Crossbill an awesome sight to see. Note the scissor like bill, This is not a deformed bill, but a utility bill.. These birds are usually on top of conifer trees eating the seeds out of cones. There bills assist them in spreading the cone apart to get to the seeds. On this particular day, this guy worked its way down the tree and was almost at eye level.. Again, it’s so important to be patient and let the birds come to you and sometimes you’re rewarded with a nice shot.

Last winter was such a treat with the appearance of these cool finches. Sweet shot with the cones.
