Belted Kingfisher

Not so shy

Female Belted Kingfishers are the colorful ones of the species. Unlike most other species of birds with the males being the more colorful of the two.

Sharp detail and soft background. You might not find these guys shy but I’m still looking to get a decent photo of one, Nice shot.

Thanks Emil,, this was the first place I found that they are not so skittish.. I was photographing from my jeep with a camo net over my window.. Maybe that helped..

Nice pair of shots. They just traded places. I have found that Kingfishers of all species are much easier to photograph from a boat. They seem to allow a boat to approach much closer than when I try to approach them from land.

Thanks, these were taken from my vehicle on the side of the road. I agree they seem more approachable from a boat or vehicle as opposed to walking up to them.
