This Horned Grebe was in the middle of the pond as I was waiting for subjects to come around the corner and close to my as I lay on the shore line. I was shooting with my Nikon DSLR and payed no attention to this Grebe.. Next thing I see, It’s coming right towards me and the sound of the cameras mirror slapping. I guess you never know what birds are going to do..

I have seen the same thing. Rather than frightening the bird, the shutter slap makes them curious. If nothing else, I have taken some very nice shots with the birds looking at me with an inquisitive face. Nice shot by the way.
