The northern flicker is part of the Woodpecker family and one of the hardest in my opinion to get a good photograph of.. I find they are usually on the ground in high grasses flicking away.. I set up on this area waiting for this guy to get into an open spot.. several ants and bugs later it Popped up and gave me a 2 second window for photographs..

I think the flicker is one of the most stunning woodpeckers around, and also one of the toughest to shoot. Nice lighting showing its beautiful plumage.
