We spent 45 minutes watching birds come to drink at a small pool of water in the Pine Springs campground at Guadalpe Mountains National Park. This bird, a southwest US resident, was among them. The Pyrrhuloxia is basically a desert cardinal whose call is reminiscent of a northern cardinal.
