Brown-headed Cowbird

Adoption

Viewed 36 Times

I recently read that the Brown-headed Cowbird was the only parasitic bird in North America, and quite often the adoptive parents are smaller than the fledgling.

This photo I snapped last summer suddenly made sense. Exhibited here is an adult Song Sparrow and a fledgling Brown-headed Cowbird during a feeding session. I did see the Song Sparrow feed the fledgling, but unfortunately didn’t capture that instance.

Some people don’t like Cowbirds for that very reason. I say nature finds a way. Great shot of the both of them.

Clearly, they’ve been a couple for quite some time!
