Birds that are nocturnal, or active at night, are a special challenge to photograph. First, you have to find them. Then you have to provide some type of light to photography. Flash sometimes works, but usually “light painting” them with a flash light works best. When we are in northern Costa Rica, our friend Chambita is a master at knowing where to look and how to find the night birds. I am posting 3 of these birds we photographed last year. These were photographed with a Canon R5, a 600 mm f/4.0 lens, off of a tripod. Usually shutter speeds were very slow-1/15th of a second.

Looking for the other two night bird shots – would like to feature them together (or did I miss them?).
