Black-headed Trogon

Usually the most desirable shot of the birds I photograph is either side or front view, but there are some birds that even the back view can be beautiful. IMO this is one of those birds.-a Black-headed Trogon from Costa Rica. These birds swallow berries and fruits whole, then sit quietly while they digest the fruit and finally regurgitate and spit out the seed. This makes them good photography subjects because they often sit very still during this process. It also makes them very important in the rain forest because they disperse the seeds of the plants far and wide. These shots were taken from a boat on the Rio Frio in Cano Negro Costa Rica. Shot with a Canon R5, 600 f/4.0 + 1.4 extender.
