This northern waterthrush slurps down a small worm. By lowering my angle so that I am partially “shooting through” the small rocks in front of the bird, I am able to effectively blur out both the foreground and background, allowing for an extremely isolated subject.

That’s a great technique to get low enough to block out the foreground an background. Indeed it lets the view focus just on the bird.
