I go hiking at Lincoln Memorial Garden in Springfield, Illinois a lot during the cooler months when I’m not riding my bicycle. Generally, I don’t bring a camera. Today, I had my camera with me and was expecting to photograph mostly deer. I did manage to get a shot of a flicker and a few shots of this golden-crowned kinglet. As Mike has pointed out, these things never sit still for very long. I did get one shot with really good lighting, but the bird’s head was turned away from me. This shot is very backlit, but isn’t too bad after some photo editing.
