This Eurasian Griffon, a type of vulture, was photographed in Portugal. Large numbers of birds will circle (“kettle”), sometimes for hours. When one descends to a carcass, all of the birds descend, almost falling like rain.

That Griffon is a strange looking bird! You can see the “vulture” in the head but the rest of the body is reminiscent of a raptor. Great action shot.
