This Snowy Owl arrived at Holland State Park on 11/22/2017 on a freighter. We watched the freighter approach the channel at Holland State Park and when the captain blew the horn, the Snowy Owl took flight. Landing first on the south breakwall, it attracted the attention of the crows which dove at it. It flew to the north breakwall where we were and landed near a fisherman. It posed for a few photos before it flew off again. We have no idea where the freighter came from. Another birder on the breakwall who lives in the Upper Peninsula told us they often seen Snowy Owls come in on freighters. Definitely an easier way to travel than flight.
