American White Pelican

Time for me to fly

I watched the American White Pelicans at Lock & Dam 24 for about an hour. After they decided that the current of the Mississippi River had taken them downstream far enough, they would fly back toward the lock and then float on the water until it was time to fly back upstream again.

Interesting observation about the Pelican’s floating and flying! Great BIF shot!

I took a lot of BIF shots, but many did not have the sharp focus like this one. I like seeing American White Pelicans in flight because then you can see the black feathers.
