Tricolored Heron

Did you know that Tricolored Heron’s beaks turn blue for a couple of weeks each spring when they are in breeding plumage? I did not until I saw several of these stately birds at the rookery at Smith Oaks Bird Sanctuary in High Island, Texas. What a sight!
