Hen Harrier

The eyes

Viewed 9 Times

Throughout human history, raptors have intrigued us. Their fierce eyes seem to embody strength and power. This is a Hen Harrier in Spain. These are common birds that spend as much time on the ground as they do in the air or in trees. They will eat any type of prey from insects to small mammals, but carrion is often their food of choice. Like most raptors they are gifted with incredible eyesight; it is estimated they can see a rabbit from a half mile away. This shot was made at sunrise; hence the marked difference in light from the breast to the tail of the bird.

I stand corrected. This is not a Common Buzzard but more likely a Hen Harrier.
