Gentoo Penquins

We traveled 2-1/2 hours east from Ushuaia along the Beagle Channel on a boat with about 100 other people to Isla Martillo to see the Gentoo Penguins. This photo shows the breeding colony of about 80 birds. We did not land and had to struggle our way through the crowd for optimal viewing from the boat.
This is a somewhat closer view of the breeding colony in which you can get a better idea of the birds laying prone on their scrape nests.
I’m partial to this photo because I spent time (successfully, I think) removing two posts and lots of bright blue rope that was hung between the remaining post and the other two.
