Roadside Hawk

Roadside Hawks Mid-Air Challenge

Viewed 4 Times

We were walking down a seldom used road through the Reserva El Destino. There were Rufous-collared Sparrows singing from the trees, a Giant Wood Rail had just been spotted and eyes turned upward as a Maguari stork flew overhead. One of our group pointed out a Roadside Hawk sitting on a treetop. As I pointed my camera at the Roadside Hawk, it took off and another Roadside Hawk attacked it in mid-air! I took about 50 photos of these two hawks tumbling together in the air over about 2-1/2 seconds – the series of shots turned out to be amazing! I selected four of those photos to share with you here at GBPs.
Rest assured that ultimately the birds separated and flew their separate ways, apparently none the worse for the brief battle.
I think these were two males challenging each other over a female that I never saw…but I’ll never know for sure.
