Rufous-gaped Hillstar

World record for oldest hummingbird?

Viewed 27 Times

This bird is only found in NW Ecuador and S Columbia and is severely endangered. What is remarkable about this individual bird is its documented age. This bird lives on a private reserve and also has a very distinct misplaced white feather on its back which makes it easy to identify. The owner of this reserve has documented this bird for 17 years which has to be a world record for a hummingbird in the wild.
The photograph is pretty ordinary but I felt the bird deserves mention.
