When I have posted images here, I have often talked about the bird’s name. Sometimes the name fits the bird perfectly, sometimes not so much. This is one of those birds that the name fits. A Sparkling Violetear. This bird, and other similar members of its family, are common in Central and South America. They are typically aggressive toward other hummers and frequently show where their name came from. These images were taken at Owl’s Watch, an ecolodge in Colombia.
