This bird has a persistent pooop pooop call reminiscent of water guggling out of the bottle lending it the name water bottle bird. The coucal is also known as the pheasant crow, member of the cuckoo family. The coucal in hindu is sometimes referred to as bharadwaj pakshi it is believed to be reincarnation of lord vishnu in common lore of hindu mythology. It is a common tradition to fold hands and in reverence while doing namaskar when one spots this bird. The breeding season is during monsoon or after monsoon. The nest is built by the male, the clutch is of 3 to 5 eggs, incubation period is 16 eggs chicks fledge after 22 days
