This is a fairly conspicuious bird with recognisable call. It has black head with a broad white stripe that runs from the back of the eyes to the flanks. It has a red eye ring, the black bill has a red base. The legs are long and Yellow. It nest on ground near debris. It lays 3 to 4 eggs that are incubated for four weeks. The chicks fledge in 5 to 6 weeks.
