This bird has a beautiful large color black bill, it also has a dark chestnut face that fades into rufous brown nape and upper parts. It has white under parts with bold black scaling in the center of the belly is clear and vent is buffish yellow. The juvenile is fresh brown overall with pale under parts. Interestingly just like other munias the male gets the female a feather a twig or a grass blade as a present before court ship display. It often nest in gardens. It loosely constructs a grass ball with one side open. It lays four to five eggs , incubation period is 16 days.
