I have posted recently that the much different family names of the birds we saw in Vietnam made IDs more challenging. This is an image of a bird that has a very familiar name, but is much different than what we see in North America. Nuthatches of several different species are common throughout the USA and Canada. While they are handsome birds with wonderfully intriguing behaviors, they are certainly not spectacularly colored birds. This Vietnamese Nuthatch though does fit that description. A Velvet-fronted Nuthatch posing in iconic Nuthatch position. Taken in the Central Highlands of Vietnam.
