Harris hawk it was formerly known as bay winged hawk, dusky hawk and sometimes wolf hawk and in latin America known as peuco. This name is derived from a greek para meaning beside near or like and the latin buteo referring to a kind of a buzzard
James Audoborn gave its English name in honor of his ornithological companion, financial supporter and friend Edward Harris. Harris hawk is a heavy built species which hunts in both light wood and open habitat, it is found mostly in southern America. It makes most of its kill on grounds such as rodents rabbits, but feeds on reptiles and birds.
Nesting females are frequently fed by males. A typical clutch consists of 2 to 4 eggs, female produces 3 clutches in a year. Harris hawk is dark brown overall with reddish brown patches on the wings. Harris hawk is the most handsome hawk in the world and the smartest hawk. Harris hawk social nature has been attributed to their intelligence, which them them easy to train and make them a poular bird for use.
The life span of Harris hawk 10-12 yrs in the wild and 20nto 25 yrs in captivity.
