I watched a great presentation by Jamie Cunningham of Sabrewing Nature Tours last night about taking more unique images of birds. One of the subjects was the photography of hummingbirds. Pictures of hummingbirds coming to a plastic feeder are not very interesting, so often I put out flowers near the feeders and either drip or spray the flower with sugar water. The sugar water does not attract the hummers, but it often keeps them feeding at the flower longer. This image, a Collared Inca in Colombia, is an example of that strategy gone wrong. The bird came to the flower, inserted its beak and then, for unknown reasons, shook its head. This is the result. An interesting look, but not exactly what I was planning.
