This vulture is an old world vulture in India it is mainly found on the foot hills of the Himalayas. The Himalayan vulture perches on crags, favourite sites showing white marks from regular defacation. They tend not to range below an elevation of below 1, 215m. Himalayan vultures often bask in the sun on rocks. They soar in thermals and are not capable of sustaining flapping flight, the life span of this vulture is nearly 40 to 50 years, vultures have increditable sight and smell. They have the largest olfactory smelling system of ant bird. Meaning they can locate a dead body from a mile often soaring large territories in the air looking for a meal. This is unique skill in the bird world.
