It is a striking black and white starling, the adult has a black hood and a white cheek patch. It has dark eyes with orange orbital skin. The pointed yellow bill has a pink base, to the lower mandible. This starling prefers damp areas. Its nest is a jumble of twigs and rubbish, the clutch consists of 4 to 6 pale blue eggs.
