This sturdy starling has a distinctive contrasting plumage, the breeding male has a glossy black hood with a shaggy crest wings the rest of the body is pinkish, the female is similar but duller. In India this bird is seen in winters, they are gregarious birds and form a noisy flock. They feed on fruits and nuts.
