The Ruby-throated Hummingbird is the only species you’ll reliably see in Northern Illinois. Occasionally a Rufous will stray into the environs. Also, the males seem to show up only for a minute and once they’ve mated they’re hard to locate. So, we’re left with the female and immature Ruby-throated’s to photograph. However, it’s always a fun outing to try to get them on interesting flowers. This one visits the lilies in my yard.
