We were at the end of the break wall at Holland State Park on October 13, 2016. When there is a stiff easterly breeze overnight, the next day migrants come off Lake Michigan and land on the first place they find as they are exhausted. We saw a small bird zoom by us and noticed it had landed on the side of the pylon at the end of the break wall right behind us. Take a close look at its feet. What is it holding on to? We think a very small lip of the green band that surrounds the pylon. It did not stay long and continued its journey inland.
