Northern Cardinal (Contest)

As we walked along a trail at Bass River Recreation Area on August 12, 2024, we heard two Northern Cardinals calling back and forth. We could tell by the increasing volume of their chatter that we were getting closer. After watching the multicolored male, we noticed the second bird to the right. We think it might be a first year but could be a female. We are not sure.
