This tern was very difficult to photograph as it was feeding on insects above the water as fast as a swallow.
This is a rare vagrant in New Zealand from the Northern Hemisphere and it is in full breeding plumage. I think this is the first time ever seen in NZ in this plumage.
An exciting day for me to see it like this.
