Fawn-breasted Brilliant
The bird on the left is a Fawn-breasted Brilliant and on the right is a female Violet-tailed Sylph. This shot was taken by my wife, Deb, at a small backyard garden, San Tadeo, near Mindo, Ecuador. The branch was a favorite spot for literally dozens of hummers waiting their turn on a feeder. When you watch these spots for hours at a time, you learn some of the individual personality characteristics of the birds. This female VTS was particularly fussy about who sat next to her.

I love taking pictures of the birds almost as much as I love just watching them. Sometimes the camera just gets in the way (to quote Sean Penn in “The Secret Live of Walter Mitty”).
