During our trip to the UK, initially we spent most of our time just doing “tourist” things in England. However, one morning I awoke early (before sunrise) and felt the need to take some bird photos. Grabbed the camera gear and went to St James Park, across the street from Buckingham Palace. Nice park with a narrow, but long lake as its centerpiece. I was very surprised to see Great White Pelicans on the lake. Very tame, they should not have been there-totally out of their range. Turns out, they were a gift to an English King in 1650 AD and a small population has been there ever since. When you look at these birds, note the slight pink color coloration. Apparently they eat some type of fresh water crustacean and their feathers turn pink. Very similar to Flamingoes.
