Grey Head Fish Eagle

Viewed 1 Time

This bird is a stocky raptor very fierce looking. It is a fish eating bird of prey from south east asia. I spotted this bird in Kaziranga many times. It is also known as sea hawk, riverhawk or fish hawk.. It has a wingspan of 155 to 170cm. The scientific of the grey headed fish eagle is icthyophaga ichthyaetus. This is the scientific name used globally for the species which is also found in various habitats across the Indian subcontinent. I have seen this bird every time when I visited Kaziranga and have noticed that it is a lone ranger, It can wait for hours for its prey.
